Things You Should Know Before Buying
Before looking at our best picks for today’s article, I want to discuss what you should look at before buying.
There are tons of platforms when it comes to smartphones these days, including Android, Apple, Windows, Phone, and BlackBerry. However, the most popular of them are Apple and Android. Each of them has its quality. So you have to choose accordingly. For example, Android phones have a more open platform, more customization features, and more variety in terms of choice.
Your phone’s performance is one of the most important things you have to check out when buying a smartphone because no one needs a machine that has an instant connection to the Internet but is pretty slow for that reason. Check out the performance specifications of the smartphone you’re considering buying before making a choice.
These include important specifications such as the CPU, ram, and storage of the device in question. While these are important read reviews about the optimization since it’ll translate to actual performance and not just specs.
Another important thing you want to know before buying a phone under $500 or any phone is the display. We’re looking at the display. You have to check out the type of display size, resolution, color, brightness, and contrast, all of which are very important.
Learn to keep your expectations at a reasonable level for the under $500 price and battery life. We spend a lot of time with our smartphones and for that reason you need a phone that’ll have a reasonable battery life, something that at least lasts you a full day of use. Anything less than a full day of use is probably not worth your time or money.
This model is the best overall for us. It gets a perfect score in all categories.
On top of the list, we have an amazing value-based mid-range smartphone coming in from Samsung. Again, the Galaxy A70. It has the best display in this category are a fine performance, great battery life and so much more. I don’t really see any significant negative about this phone, especially for the price that it comes at. If you see in the galaxy A50 of the last year, you recognize the Samsung Galaxy A70 as the bigger version of it. It’s pretty good as well.
And I like that. It’s a very familiar design that is attractive to everyone. It’s an all-plastic phone, though, with an ultra-glossy rear that looks interesting but is a bit prone to hairline scratches. I should state that it comes in 3 different finishes, including blue, black, and white, all of them giving a rainbow look. When the light shines on the back, it has the infinity you will drop notch with a tiny chin in the bottom that delivers a great viewing experience, the fingerprint scan of the devices on the screen. And its pretty fast Samsung Galaxy A70 is packed with a 6.7 inch Super AMOLED panel with a Full HD plus resolution. It has an intuitive twenty to nine aspect ratio and everything about the panel is superb.
Details with sharp colors are vibrant and the overall viewing experience is magnificent. This phone was packed with a 4500 mah that delivers about two days of use without any problem in medium use. You’ll see the optical Snapdragon 675 and the 6 gigabytes around for performance purposes in the performance department. Then again it has the Adreno 612 dedicated GPU that helps you play the latest games without any problems. If you want the best one under $500, this is it.

Before we talk about the best model overall, let’s look at the runner-up for this list before we talk about best model overall. Let’s look at the runner-up for this list.
Samsung has been the leading smartphone manufacturer in the world for a long time now, and even its older models are still holding up excellently. For example, the Samsung Galaxy S9. This is an amazing phone even in 2021. Definitely a failsafe device with a superb design, a beautiful panel on the front, tons of performance, a great camera and so much more. Let’s check it out. In terms of design and aesthetics, the Samsung Galaxy S9 has adopted a design that’s close to its predecessor, the Galaxy S8, but still attractive. Without a doubt.
It has a bezel list on the top and bottom of the screen and the fingerprint scanner is located on the back under the camera array. The Samsung Galaxy S9 is made of high-quality materials as well, and it has a curved display that’s super attractive. I should mention that he has the IP 68 water resistance rating and he has a Gorilla Glass 5 that protects your screen on the front. It’s packed with an f5.8 inch OLED Quad HD plus panel that is simply amazing. It’s super bright with vivid colors and near-perfect contrast. The most impressive thing about this display, though, is that you can customize the settings to your knees, contrast color, brightness, everything without exception.
On top of all this, the Samsung Galaxy S9 panel supports HDR content without a doubt, with great HDR 10 format in the performance department. The Samsung Galaxy S9 is also great. It was developed as a flagship phone and it doesn’t lag behind modern smartphones. It’s equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SOC with four gigabytes of RAM in benchmark tests. It proved itself, but you won’t need that. As you’ll see, it delivers a flawless performance overall.
- Premium watertight design
- Class-leading AMOLED screen
- In the fastest Android phones (in benchmarks)
- Good audio skills and stereo speakers
- Variable aperture camera
- 960fps slow-motion, automatic motion detection
- Class-leading steel and video quality
- Excellent retail bundle
- Recycled design
- Only 720p resolution for 960fps and really limited duration
- Not charging fastest (has been stuck like this since Galaxy S5)
- It’s too expensive

Best Mid-Range Option
If you are looking for a mid-range model and this next pick is a great option.
Android phones are excellent choices as they deliver phones in every price range. If you’re looking for a great mid-range product, though, I have to recommend the Google Pixel 3. This phone has an amazing camera as it’s one of the best camera phones ever made. The OLED panel is beautiful as well, and everything about this smartphone is ideal in my opinion. So let’s check it out. The first impression that the Google Pixel 3 gave me was adorable with just one word. When it’s a small, compact, and lightweight body that’s passable and nice to hold in the hand, you can reach every corner of the screen without moving your hand.
And it’s made to be as comfortable as it gets. It has a Two-Tone color on the back with a shiny gloss on the top part and a matte finish on the rest of the body, giving it a beautiful look. It also comes in three different finishes. Clearly white, just black and not pink. On the front, you’ll see that it has a chin and forehead, unlike most modern phones. But I actually like it this way. There you’ll spot a 5.5-inch OLED panel with a full HD plus 2160 by 1080 resolution, which delivers tons of sharpness and detail. I have to mention that he has HDR support as well and combined with the OLED nature, the colors are superb. Everyone will be pleased with the display performance of this one. The biggest selling point to the Google Pixel 3 is its camera on the back.
It has just a single 12-megapixel lens that might not look like much, especially considering that most other phones. Have at least 3 lenses. Then again, it delivers the best photographs that you’ll see with the HDR plus image processing pixel visual cortex and the super clever AI features in the performance department. It doesn’t lag as it’s packed with a Snapdragon 845 chipset, 4 gigabytes RAM, and 128 gigabytes of storage. It’s not far from most flagship-grade smartphones, and I think it delivers great value for the price.
- Nice Display
- Excellent camera
- Powerful internal components
- USB-C Charger
- Call screening AI
- Google Duplex feature
- Now running is prominent
- Free Google Photo Storage Benefit
- There is no expandable memory
- Not headphone jack
- Price higher than Pixel 3A line
Best Battery Life
Battery life is extremely important. This next model has the best battery life out of the bunch.
Motorola has produced some amazing phones in the last few years and the Moto G series. But if you want the best battery life in the under $500 price, you should check out the moto g power. It’s the strongest battery life I’ve ever seen for a low price tag, delivers a great performance as a nice camera and so much more. It’s really surprising to see this kind of phone at this price in terms of design. The Moto G power doesn’t have a flagship phone or static, not because the design team behind this one is bad, but because it uses a plastic body that gives it a glossy finish.
It’s not bad looking at all, but if you’re looking for something that has a flagship glass sandwich design, you should look elsewhere on the back. You’ll see the main shooter and another bump that features the ultra-wider macro lens, along with the flash next to them as the Motorola logo that works as a fingerprint scanner. Great placement on the front. It has a near-bezel list display by utilizing the punch hole cut out of the front camera on the top left-hand side. I have to say that the phone is a bit chunkier thanks to its super large battery cell.
But you get a 3.5 millimeter Jack as well. On the front, the Moto G power uses a 6.4 inch LCD panel with a Full HD plus resolution. That’s pretty good overall. Interesting. I saw that the phone delivers a great 97 percent of the SRGV kind of space with near-perfect accuracy, with a Delta E rating of 0.33. The brightness is also super solid as it peaks at 500 nits, making it visible even during the brightest days. The Moto G Power is packed with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SOC that delivers enough performance for most day-to-day tasks, and it takes help from the 4 gigabytes to RAM and the 64 gigabytes of onboard storage.
However, the biggest selling point to the Moto G Power is its 5000 mah battery that surpassed the best by more than 4 hours in our testing and the best was its predecessor. It also charges rather quickly, which is even more attractive. If you need more than 2 days of moderate use before needing a recharge, this is the one to get.
- Headphone jack
- Motorola’s great software ad
- 5000mAh wide battery
- Triple rear camera
- Compatible with all American carriers
- Charging speed is slow
- Motorola Update Policy
- Not optical zoom
- 64 GB storage is limited
Next up, we have a model which gives you the best value for your money.
We’re going to kick off this list with one of the best options in the market. The Apple iPhone SE. This is Apple’s best value model, delivering great performance, an amazing display, lightweight body, great battery life and so much more. We certainly didn’t expect this kind of device from Apple as the company delivers flagship models mostly. But we won’t complain at all in terms of design. The Apple iPhone SE has a pretty familiar design as it has the same body shape and size as the iPhone 8 that was released back in 2017.
This is one of the Apple designs that I like a lot since it’s minimalistic one would complain about the chin and forehead on the screen in the world of bezel list displays, but the build, quality, and aesthetics are excellent. The most impressive thing about the Apple iPhone SE is that it’s extremely lightweight at just 5.22 ounces on the front as a 4.7 inch and 1334 by the 750-pixel panel. That might not be as vivid or impressive as the newest iPhone, but it works wonders.
The panel can get pretty bright and there were some good colors without forgetting, I should mention, Apple’s true tone feature that makes the colors more natural and pleasing to the eye. I’d also like to see the return of the 3.5-millimeter aux port here, but they are nowhere to be found. You’ll have to use the lightning port for your headphones as well. The biggest selling point to the Apple iPhone SE is the superb A13 Bionic chipset that’s present and the iPhone 11 pro as well.
This gives this phone the extra power it needs to compete with the newer phones that have some excellent specifications. Well, the thing I liked about the Apple iPhone SE is the return of the exceptional touch ID. Another thing to note about this new Value-Based iPhone is 1821 mah battery, which might seem small, but it delivers a good battery performance. If you want a good iPhone that you’ll keep by your side for a long time. This is it.
- Compact and lightweight, water-resistant
- Bright and high contrast screen
- Outstanding performance from the A13 chip
- Loud stereo speakers
- Touch ID is back and we love it
- Great light photo and good low light photo
- Very good video recording capabilities with stable stability
- Proof of the future with the latest chipset and regular iOS updates
- The cheapest iPhone yet
- Battery capacity is unnecessary
- Night mode is badly missed in the camera
- Slow 5W charger inbox
- Exchange of iTunes files can be frustrating for many
